Whether it’s drag shows or boys in baseball caps, there’s usually something for everyone at this watering hole.

I lived in Dallas for quite some time and only moved away recently. While Oak Lawn Avenue *is* the home of many wonderful gay clubs and bars, there have been many attacks/stabbings in that area for the past few years. These attacks specifically target LGBT+ people in and around these establishments. The Dallas police has done next to nothing, even after Orlando, and despite community outrage. Just a heads up in case anyone is planning to venture to Oak Lawn: be careful.

Sadly, there just aren’t that many lesbian bars left in the world, but I once went to a bookstore in Atlanta that was described as an LGBT haven, only to find that it was seriously male-focused.

I’m not saying those spaces should not exist – not at all! – but painting all businesses with the rainbow-colored “LGBT” brush is a disservice. At this point, unless a listing specifically calls out a lesbian clientele, I have to assume the focus is gay men.

* I’m not including the Trans community in this reply, because they face their own challenges when finding safe or welcoming communities. I am not forgetting them, but can’t speak for them.

In the intro alone, it says, “There are many more gay-friendly hotspots around the world, but these are 10 of my favorites because of their history of activism, the number of diverse LGBT events they host, and the fact that they’re just really cool cities.”

It’s the guest poster’s opinion of his favorite 10 cities based on the criteria that he outlines. You should write your own post if you disagree, but that has nothing to do with the credibility of this site or even this post.

I would add Ibiza as a top summer destination. Ibiza for the party animals and Formentera for the more relaxed traveller (not all gay people are constantly looking for the craziest party out there)! Great weather, great food, great vibe, just great places really…

Sorry this isn’t related to Matt’s fantastic article, but I’m really hoping to get an answer quickly to my problem!

I’m going to be studying for 6 months in Sydney from February of next year, and I really want to go travelling in Asia for 3 weeks/ a month before. I’m a bit worried that I won’t be able to do this due to my large amount of luggage (most likely two suitcases full) and my expensive laptop etc.

Does anyone know if hostels in Thailand/ Cambodia/ Bali accommodate for this? Or are there any other solutions?

Thank you so much!

Garry
