I would love to read the Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World and the two you wrote.

Read this nearly 20 years ago. I ‘ve since re read it but it still seems fresh. It re tells the story of a slightly messed up trip around South America in the early /mid 90s (before Google and social media)

It’s not quite as tasteful or insightful as some of the recommendations above and it has been slagged off by some ‘reviewers but t I would contend that it’s a cult travel classic.

I read the one about Genghis Khan a long time ago. Question: are they all from American authors? If not, could you include a couple of books that are not written from an American perspective? Not saying that there is something wrong with American authors, it’s just that I love reading authors from different countries. Cheers.

They are part detective, part mystery, part ghost story, part comedy, and part history lesson. The books have everything. Plus they are set in Laos and follow the adventures and misadventures of the state’s only coroner.

As well as having great stories and a wonderful cast of characters, you can really get a feel for the culture, history, and people of Laos. I’ve been lucky enough to travel through the country and it takes me back every read. It’s fun to turn a page and have that, I’ve been there moment!
