Excellent post. Egypt has been on my list since forever. I’m not sure why I still haven’t visited yet!

I’ll be sure to memorise the advice here for when I do go. Who can complain about eating street food to save money. I’ll let my gf deal with the haggling though!

Fantastic tips! I’m pretty new when it comes to street food and have had a few bad experiences. I know you said that street vendors can be the way to go (and the falafel sounds amazing) but is there any food you think we should stay away from?

So many great tips! Can’t wait to visit Egypt, but having to be alert all the time to avoid being ripped off makes me nervous… Haggling can be fun if you have a good sense of humor and some patience, but it truly gets exhausting when you need to negotiate a fair price for absolutely everything.

I think it ultimately comes down to how much time you have available and what your priorities are. If you’re interested in the landscapes and maybe making some friends on the bus, then a daytime bus would be great! If your goal is just to get somewhere, then a night bus is definitely the way to go.

Great tips. Spot on regarding haggling. To get the best deals in Egypt (and many parts of the world) you need to know how to haggle well.

In my experience it also helps to learn a bit of Arabic, as almost no tourists bother to do so. It will set you apart from the crowd and endear you more to the locals. Most Egyptians are incredibly warm and friendly people, and you will have a much richer experience as a result.
